Welcome to the Smithtown Poetry Society. We invite you to browse our website, relax, sit back with a cup of coffee and enjoy the poetry. Feel free to leave any feedback, questions, poetry or comments.


Our Mission

We are a forum for established poets as well as new and upcoming names in the writing field. Our mission is to help writer's publish their work. To interact with other writer's for advice and critique. Our forum is free, no membership is necessary you may exchange information freely here. Please do not use distasteful language (this is a beautiful poetic language site). Visit, post as often as you like. May all your poetic dreams come true.


We offer quarterly contests in poetry, Our publication The Willow is available online for free or  $20.00 for a one year subscription for those not yet online and those who enjoy the feel of a good journal in their hand. Subscription includes membership. Membership fee is $10.00 for 1 year. Members are automatically added to our mailing list of upcoming events.

Submission guidelines; you can submit up to 3 poems per submission. You must include a self addressed stamped envelope #10. Poems must be the original work of the poet. Poems must be double spaced, up to 30 lines. Short stories are welcome provided they are double spaced, original works of the writer, and written in a tasteful manner. All poems will be taken in for consideration for the Willow publication. Poems may be edited for punctuation and grammar. Artwork/ photographs that are emailed to: sherylmint@cs.com will be considered for our publication. If you would like to mail your poems in to The Smithtown Poetry Society our address is;

Contest rules; You may enter up to three poems per contest. Entry fee is $5.00 for 3 poems. Poems must be under 21 lines. Please follow submission guidelines for your entries. I advise you to send your best poetry for the competition. The winner receives half the proceeds from the contest and will be featured in that quarters  publication. The other half of the proceeds goes to distributing the Willow to coffee shops.
Deadlines are: Jun. 1, Sept. 1, Dec.1, Mar.1.

NEW COMPETITION

The Marie Minter Award in Poetry

The Smithtown Poetry society is pleased to announce it's first anthology of poetry entitled Whispers of Poetry. The entry fee is $20.00 for up to 5 poems which includes reading, processing fee and one copy of the anthology. All work must be your original poetry, please make copies of original poems for submissions your copy will not be returned. Deadline for this competition is June 15th of each year. Entries not postmarked by that date will be returned unopened. This assures that our publication will go to print on time. Anthology's will go into production following proof and editing. You may email your submissions and pay through paypal; sherylmint@cs.com or mail your submissions to; The Smithtown Poetry Society, P.O.
